Biotechnology to boost Vietnam's aquaculture sector
Vietnam is seeking to upgrade its aquaculture sector to a level comparable with that of developed South-east Asian countries through biotechnology.
The government has approved a project to develop and apply biotechnology in domestic aquaculture until 2020, which is expected to raise aquatic production by 30 percent.
Plans include establishing a network of small- and medium-sized aquaculture biotechnology businesses to support production and disease prevention, while providing farmers with high-quality aquatic breeds.
Incentives have also been proposed for industry stakeholders who step up scientific research into production, encourage technology exchange or create a favourable environment for investment.
