Co-op Islami hoping to expand poultry supplier network in Brazil

Representatives of the Co-op Islami, a retailer of halal foods based in Dubai, is in Brazil looking for poultry suppliers as it expands its network of supermarkets in the Middle East, South Africa and India.

Representatives visited the Arab Brazilian Chamber yesterday looking for help in finding exporters.

The company has been a patron of Brazilian poultry for the past 10 years. Poultry sold by the company so far comes exclusively from Brazil.

Besides the condition that the poultry sold must be halal ( meeting Islamic conditions) the company wants to have an inspector in place in slaughterhouses ensuring slaughter is done the Islamic way.

Besides, poultry, the company from Dubai is interested in buying mutton and beef.

Co-op Islami also owns a series of brands in food items such as hamburgers, canned food and seafood.
