EU extends ban on import of poultry products from Turkey

The EU has decided to extend its ban on imports on poultry products from Turkey until the end of 2006,the EU Commission said on Tuesday (Jul 4).

This means Turkey joins China, Malaysia and Thailand in having their poultry export ban to the EU extended.

The ban would be extended until the end of 2007 for the remaining three countries.

The EU had suspended the import of poultry products from Turkey in 2005 after bird flu killed several people.

The EU said Turkey is still at risk from the disease although it had taken the necessary measures to control bird flu.
