Colombia ranks fourth in milk production in Latin America

After Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, Colombia is the next biggest milk producer in South America.

The estimated milk production registered in 2010 was 7,377 thousand tonnes. Along with the increase in the milk production, the consumption of dairy products has also increased.

The quality of milk produced across the country from different regions is high on nutritional yield content, therefore would indeed benefit the dairy products produced.

Milk cow numbers have increased at a steady growth of 2% over the period from 2007-09. The cow numbers increased from 6.8 million head in 2007 to 7.1 million head in 2009. The future period is expected to showcase the same growth trend as achieved in the historical period.
