Iran to emerge as world's major wheat exporter

Iran is to become one of the world's wheat exporting countries by exporting two million tonnes of the product in the current Iranian year (started March 21), predicted the country's deputy commerce minister on Wednesday (July 4).

Mohammad-Sadeq Mofatteh said Iran will ship the surplus wheat, adding the ministry is motivating the private sector to export the product.

He said the wheat transportation expense will be paid by the government in a bid to decrease its cost price in the ports.

Mofatteh announced that Iraq was the first country that imported 100 tonnes of wheat from Iran, adding the Asian and North African countries will be the destinations the country exports its surplus wheat in 2007.
