Canadian Tofino's salmon farm delayed
An application for a new salmon farm northeast of Tofino has been delayed as the deadline to hand in public comments has been extended further to July 22.
Due to system problems with the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations' Reasons for Decision Webpage, access to information related to the application was unavailable, and the ministry set up a temporary webpage to post application documents to allow for public review and comment.
Mainstream Canada (a division of EWOS Canada Ltd.) has applied for a 55 hectare aquaculture site at Plover Point in Fortune Channel.
Pending approval, the site would have the capacity to produce 3,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon every two years.
The original deadline for comments was June 18 and was initially extended to July 4.
