Brazil 2006/07 corn crop down slightly to 50.5 million tonnes
Brazil's 2006-07 corn crop was revised downward slightly Monday to 50.5 million metric tonnes from a previous estimate of 50.6 million tonnes, the National Commodities Supply Corp, or Conab, said Tuesday (July 3).
Conab said reductions in planted area in the north and northeast led to a cut in corn production in the main crop. Brazil also plants corn in the winter in areas where temperatures remain relatively spring-like. The winter corn crop has increased due to higher international corn prices. Total output for both crops is put at 50.5 million tonnes.
