Vietnam opens another large-scale poultry slaughter facility
Unitek Vietnam on Jun 30 (Friday) opened a large-scale poultry factory in the Southern province of Dong Nai, signifying Vietnam's move to consolidate Vietnam's poultry slaughter facilities towards industrial scale operations.
The US $6 million factory, capable of processing 40,000 poultry a day, is equipped with an advanced processing line conforming to European standards.
Its products include fresh chicken meat and over 40 processed poultry products under the 99 Poultry brand for exports and domestic consumption.
Unitek Vietnam was established in 1987 by a group of Overseas Vietnamese in Australia.
Vietnam's government has indicated it is encouraging its poultry industry to move away from backyard rearing towards industrial scale raising and processing, as bird flu was thought to spread easily among backyard poultry.
