JBS beef lands 12 in hospital
At least 12 people have been hospitalised in connection with a possible E. coli outbreak in beef produced by JBS Swift Beef Co., according to federal health officials.
Â
The officials said two of the 12 patients suffered kidney failure.
Â
The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said at least 23 people in nine states may have become ill after eating the contaminated beef produced in the Greeley, Colorado plant.
Â
The company expanded the beef recall to 380,000 pounds this week from the initial 41,000 pounds after some illnesses in relation to the company's products were reported.
Â
The CDC said health officials in several states investigating the strain of E. coli found the most ill people had consumed ground beef, and many reported that it was undercooked.
