India summer crop area in 2008-09 down 2.3 percent on-year

India's area under summer-sown crops such as soy, sugar cane, cotton and pulses in 2008-09 fell 2.3 percent on year, the country's annual Economic Survey said Thursday (July 2).

The area under summer crops was 103.92 million hectares in 2007-08, said the survey for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009.

The amount of hectares under summer crops for 2008-09 wasn't immediately available.
