Mexico eases meat imports

Mexico has introduced a "Reliable Importer Programme" to improve import procedures and facilitate the importing of meat and poultry from the US.

On May 28 this year, Mexico published in the Diario Oficial (Federal Register) a new Reliable Importer Programme for meat and poultry imports.

This voluntary programme will allow shipments of imported meat and poultry to forego sanitary inspection at the border, and instead be inspected at the destination, reducing logistical bottlenecks at border inspection points.

This programme reflects an ongoing effort to streamline the import inspection process to improve trade between the United States and Mexico.
