US, Japan buys Vietnam shrimp again
Since the end of May, a large number of US and Japanese importers have returned to Vietnamese shrimp, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
US orders and purchase volumes for Vietnamese shrimp have now risen substantially, after steady declines since May.
This import increase marks a positive sign for the local seafood industry, VASEP said.
The US has resumed buying Vietnamese shrimps as dwindling shrimp reserves and rising demand forced a return to Vietnamese imports.
Following suit, Japanese importers have also increased orders for Vietnamese shrimp, VASEP said. Demand for shrimp in this lucrative market is also up as a traditional festival in Japan draws near.
Vietnamese shrimp exports to the EU are also on the rise, VASEP said.
The association also pointed out that Vietnamese farmers and companies should up their production of shrimp and tap into bigger profits as global demand for the seafood surges.
