China's 2012 wheat purchases reach 7.74 million tonnes
As of June 20, China bought a total of 7.74 million tonnes of wheat from 2012's crop in nine major rice producing provinces, according to statistics released by the State Grain Administration on June 27.
State-owned grain enterprises bought 4.99 million tonnes of wheat, accounting for 65% of the total amount.
Moreover, the Ministry of Agriculture disclosed that China imported 1.98 million tonnes of wheat throughout January to May, up 618.8% on-year, sources reported.
In the five months it exported 109,000 tonnes of wheat, down 5.9% on-year.
