Alongside the recognised diploid and tetraploid perennial ryegrass based mixtures, a major supporting role in the Greenstar range is played by soft leaf tall fescue. The capacity of this grass for producing good bulk yields - even in dry locations - high-protein content, very good palatability and a high NDF digestibility are important characteristics.

Special trials have proved there is high consistency of digestibility over the different forage cuts. The high NDF content encourages ruminating ability, supporting saliva production in the process. Especially where rations are low in crude fibre, silage with tall fescue as a component offers a real advantage as a feed component.
