Iran Joins Wheat-exporting Countries

Iran will join wheat-exporting countries as of next year. Agriculture Ministry has estimated Iran's wheat production will register a 10-15 percent rise in the coming year, which will not only meet domestic needs, but leave a surplus for export as well.

The Ministry also announced that the scientific potential in the country's agriculture sector has been fully tapped to see a sharp rise in wheat production from 14 million to 18 million tons.

This comes as Iran used to be the second largest country in the world to import wheat over the past four years.
