China's DDGS imports grow over 41%

In the first five months of 2012, the distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) imports of China increased 41.5% to 913,000 tonnes, China National Grain and Oils Information Center (CNGOIC) declared Wednesday (June 26).

Imports of the corn-based animal feed totalled 295,000 tonnes in May, an increase of 85,000 tonnes from April, the CNGOIC said. It didn't provide an on-year increase.

Imports of DDGS in 2011 totalled 1.69 million tonnes, a decline of 47%, the CNGOIC said, attributing the decline to an anti-dumping investigation into US imports.

Last week, the Ministry of Commerce said it had ended the antidumping probe against imports of US DDGS, paving the way for more imports.

Imports of DDGS from the US are expected to fall in the next few months due to higher US prices, the CNGOIC said.

Currently, imported DDGS is quoted at RMB2,350-2,380 (US$370-$374) a tonne, while the local product is RMB2,100-RMB2,150/tonne (US$330-$338), the CNGOIC said.
