The Chinese government has promised to back the sustainable and hygienic production of meat and food, according to He Luli, president of the China Meat Association.
It is critical to solve the issues of farming, animal husbandry and meat and food safety, she said, adding that the government is backing measures to strengthen agricultural policy, coordinate the industrialisation of meat production, modernise rural agriculture and improve farmers' incomes.
In a move to reform the Chinese meat industry, the government and industry should accelerate the developments and strengthen financial support to regions of large pig and cattle production, she said.
"We will expand the opening up of the farming and animal husbandry industry and actively intensify exchange and cooperation with other countries throughout the world," she added.
