Cargill to build Canadian grain terminal
US-based Cargill Inc. said on Monday (Jun 27) that it will build a new grain terminal in McLennan, Alberta, and open it in the autumn of 2012.
The 28,000-tonne facility will double Cargill's grain-handling capacity in that area of northern Alberta and will be built on the same site as its crop inputs center.
Cargill, whose Canadian subsidiary is based in Winnipeg, is Canada's third-largest grain handler.
Ottawa has said it will open Canada's wheat and barley marketing system in August 2012 when it removes the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly.
