US State Cattle Board Promotes Beef Despite Mad Cow Scare

A US State cattle official says demand for beef is up despite a mad cow disease scare late last year.

The Cattlemen's Beef Board's operating committee met with representatives of state beef councils in Albuquerque this week.

Board chairman Nelson Curry says demand for beef is up 16 percent over the past five years.

When news broke in December that a dairy cow in Washington state had mad cow disease, the Cattlemen's Beef Board launched a massive information campaign to assure Americans that it was still safe to eat beef.

The Cattlemen's Beef Board does promotion and research for the beef industry.
