Indonesia's chicken prices increase on fuel-price hike
The price of basic commodities, particularly chicken, has begun to feel the impact of the fuel-price hike.
National Chicken Husbandry Organization (Gopan) secretary Kuswoyo said the fuel-price increase had raised distribution costs which had affected the price of chicken.
"Three weeks ago, the price for one chicken for husbandry owners stood at IDR16,000 (US$1.61). Now, the rate stands at IDR18,500 (US$1.86)," Kuswoyo said.
At the consumer level, Purwanto, a chicken seller at Pondok Gede traditional market in Bekasi, West Java, said the price had increased to IDR32,000 (US$3.23) per whole chicken from IDR28,000 (US$2.82).
