US pork prices decline, beef and poultry rise in May
US retail pork prices declined by 0.2% in May compared to a year ago, while beef and veal prices were up 1.7% and poultry prices were up 5.6%.
According to USDA report, compared to April, pork prices in May were up 0.6%, beef and veal were up 0.5% and poultry prices were unchanged.
In the monthly update of its Food Prices Index, USDA estimated prices of food away from home in May rose by 2.3% compared to a year ago while overall food at home prices rose by 0.8%. Compared to April, food prices away from home in May were up 0.2%, while overall food prices at home declined by 0.3%.
During 2013, USDA expects pork prices to rise 1% to 2% and expects beef, veal and poultry prices to rise 3% to 4%.
