World milk output to rise 3% on India's high production
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation has projected the global milk production to increase almost 3% to 750.1 million tonnes in the current calendar year due to the high production of milk in India.
"World milk production in 2012 is forecast to grow by 2.7% to 750 million tonnes. Asia is expected to account for most of the increase, with output in India, the world's largest milk producing country, forecast to rise by 5.2 million tonnes to 127 million tonnes," said FAO.
"Increased output is also anticipated in China, Pakistan and Turkey, as consumer demand continues to rise," it added.
Meanwhile, on the global per capita milk consumption, FAO has estimated it to rise by 1.6% to 106.1 kilogrammes per year in 2012 from an estimated 104.5 kilogrammes per year in 2011.
