South Korea remains fourth largest market for Vietnam seafood
South Korea stays at number four for Vietnam's seafood market, following the EU, Japan and the US, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).
Vietnam exported 34,746 tonnes of seafood to South Korea in the first five months of this year, worth US$101 million. Of this, frozen cuttlefish and shrimp accounted for $25.9 million and $28.7 million, respectively.
VASEP standing deputy chairman Nguyen Huu Dung said South Korea needs more domestic attention from Vietnamese seafood exporters as it is becoming a vital market.
Seafood output in South Korea has declined over the last few years while the countrys consumption has remained high, according to fisheries experts. That was why Vietnamese seafood exporters should find ways to further penetrate the market, Dung said.
