Indonesia wants halal cert on New Zealand meat products
Indonesia has asked New Zealand to certify its meat products with Halal certification before exporting them, according to Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Hasan Wirayuda.
Wirayuda said the New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully had asked for more time to comply with the Halal certification demand on meat products imported from New Zealand.
The demand was initially submitted by the Council of Ulemas (MUI) and had been conveyed to the Australian and New Zealand governments earlier, Wirayuda said.
Wirayuda said the government-backed MUI has also asked that the certification to be fulfilled no later than October this year.
Details of the certification on New Zealand's meat products exported to Indonesia would be discussed by McCully and Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Pengestu.
