France gives nod to South Australian seafood

France's agreement with South Australia for seafood trade hopes to spark a wider deal of aquaculture trade from the rest of Europe.

The deal signed between the Australian government and Europe's association of chefs, Euro-Toques International, means South Australian produce will feature on the menus of more than 400 French chefs.

The deal will also include training partnerships between South Australia and France.

Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Minister Paul Caica says the A$140,000 agreement will boost production in the aquaculture sector.

He said they already had a 25 percent jump in the value of production in Australia's aquaculture over the last financial year and they expect this will significantly increase in an industry that already employs 3,000 South Australians.

Caica added that it has generated hundreds of millions of dollars and more flow-on benefits will be done through this agreement.

Caica says the agreement will expose the state's local produce to some of the finest chefs across Europe and the rest of the world.
