Rising Dalian corn price leads to rise in meat and egg prices
With the corn price hovering at high levels in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, meat and egg prices have also grown over 10% in the past two weeks.
For the past week, Dalian's live pig price rose over 10% from RMB13.5-15 (US$1.99-2.2) per kg to RMB15-16.5 (US$2.2-2.43) per kg. In fact, by last Sunday (June 20) the average corn sourcing price in China rose to RMB1,919.39 (US$282.5) per tonne and ex-warehouse price to RMB1,918.54 (US$282.37) per tonne, both at record highs.
Meanwhile the current corn price is only slightly lower than the level seen before the Dragon Boat Festival. Market insiders said corn price would be pushed higher in the second half of the year by the recovering livestock industry.
