Iran opens new grain terminal

The Port of Amirabad in Iran has witnessed the commissioning of a grain terminal, under the joint Kazakhstan-Iran project which costs US$20 million and has been under construction for three years.

It was fulfilled by the KazAgro holding and Behdis Tedzherad Albor company on a parity basis. Doctor Muhavedi, deputy Iranian Minister of Trade said Iran is in need of Kazakhstan's grain, since we and our neighbours are dependent on it. Through our joint efforts, we can both sell grain and assist in its popularisation on the territory of the Middle East and Persian Gulf.

This terminal has great possibilities for the creation of new associated factories. For example, it has planned to open a milling complex. Kazakhstan's flour will be sold both on the domestic market of Iran and sent for export. The method of partitioning depends on what is most effective at the time.

Private companies in Iran are interested in Kazakhstan's grain because it is more profitable than purchasing wheat from Canada or Germany. In the near future, Iran is planning to increase the amount which it imports. Currently, the country is considering the possibility of constructing another grain terminal.
