SHF Industries to buy Agriprocessors plant
Canada-based SHF Industries LLC has agreed to purchase Agriprocessors Inc's kosher meat plant, including the payment of at least US$8.5 million of the US$21 million owed to the company's creditors.
Agriprocessors' bankruptcy trustee, Joseph Sarachek, has asked a judge to permit the sale of the plant to SHF, which registered as a business in Iowa in early May.
The deal must be approved by a bankruptcy judge and prosecutors of the former chief executive Sholom Rubashkin, who led Agriprocessors prior to the high profile immigration raid in 2008 that led to the company's downfall.
Sarachek said the new owners would reopen the plant's beef slaughter operations and continue processing chickens.
