US may allow four Chinese companies to resume seafood exports
According to authorities in China's southern port of Zhanjiang, officials from US Food and Drug Administration will be visiting companies to assess their compliance with HACCP standards. The team will be there from July 8 to July 15.
Market participants said that four Chinese seafood companies will likely be able to resume exports to the US after this round of inspection.
If so, this will be the second batch of Chinese companies that are allowed to resume seafood exports to the US after restrictions were imposed following discovery of banned antibiotics by US authorities in June last year.
Zhanjiang is a major seaport located in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. In recent years, the port city has emerged to be a major source for US-bound seafood.
