Bulgaria anticipates record wheat yields in 2008

Bulgaria expects to reap a record of 3.4 - 4 million tonnes of wheat this year against 2.4 tonnes in 2007, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Svetla Bachvarova said.

The low output last year was caused by drought, the minister said.

With record harvest expected, Bulgaria pegs its wheat export volume to 1 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, the corn output of the country was below expectation, prompting some analysts to warn there might be corn supply crisis in the coming months.
