Indonesia is second largest supplier of shrimp to the US in Q1 2005

 


Indonesia is at present the second biggest supplier of shrimp to the US, with Thailand at the top for the first quarter of 2005.


Indonesia's shrimp exports to the US stood at 14,405 tonnes, below Thailand's 39,128 tonnes while China came in third with 12,417 tonnes. The US imported a total of 125,157 tonnes of shrimp in the first three months of 2005.


Other suppliers of shrimp to the US are India, Vietnam, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela and Bangladesh.


Indonesia's shrimp exports to the US rose to 46,966 tonnes in 2004 from 16,028 tonnes in 1999. The US has not imposed a 7 percent tax on its shrimp imports from Indonesia unlike the situation with shrimp imports from Thailand, China, and India.
