Nicaragua temporarily bans shrimp imports from Asia
Following fears of the spread of Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS), Nicaragua's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has temporarily banned imports of shrimp from Asia.
The Ministerial Agreement No. 008-2013 prohibits imports of live or dead shrimp, frozen, raw, cooked, boiled, shrimp, polychaetes, prebiotic and probiotics to prevent EMS, which is a bacterial disease affecting shrimp.
The agreement aims to coordinate efforts with producers, associations, universities and laboratories, to preserve the health status of the country's fisheries and aquaculture.
