Poultry sector to top European markets for 2010

Poultry processing will be the most successful industry in Europe for the year 2010, according to Rabobank.

Rabobank feed and animal protein associate director Nan-Dirk Mulder, said the poultry industry will outperform both pork and beef in 2010 whereas the whole meat market will grow by almost 40% in the next 20 years.

Mulder also revealed that 70% of global growth in demand for meat will be in Asia in the next decade.

''For the poultry industry, you are in the right sector because it is a really fast growing internationally but also in Europe. For Europe also it is growing faster than the other proteins. It is the most efficient one but also fits very well for modern consumer trends like convenience and health,'' Mulder said.

Mulder predicts that there will be a battle in the future between chicken and seafood as the most efficient global protein, and that while beef will still remain an important protein, it should be more focused as a premium product.
