Japan buys 7,000 tonnes feed wheat

Japan's agriculture ministry bought 7,000 tonnes of feed wheat and 104,950 tonnes of feed barley in a sell-buy-sell tender on Wednesday (June 23), a government official said.

The grain was bought for bulk shipment by end-August, said the official with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The tender initially sought 20,000 tonnes of feed wheat and of 200,000 tonnes of feed barley, all in bulk shipments.

The previous two tenders to import feed wheat and feed barley were unsuccessful due to a lack of bids.

Under the sell-buy-sell (SBS) system, end-users can negotiate as a group on the price, quantity and origin of grains before submitting bids to trading firms via the agriculture ministry.

Japan buys wheat mostly from Canada, Australia and the US.
