Russia, Egypt agree on wheat quality control

Russian and Egyptian officials have agreed that a long-term wheat supply contract will be signed between the two countries once the form of a single quality certificate is agreed by them, the Russian economic development ministry said Tuesday (June 23).

The certificate, to be shortly finalized by the two countries, will serve as a basis for grain quality control, and will ensure that the wheat supplies from Russia to Egypt are not interrupted.

The Egyptian authorities have recently seized a shipment of Russian wheat on quality concerns.

The Russian economic development ministry said the incident was due to lack of transparency in the quality control and delivery of the Russian wheat, and now the two countries would have a single quality certificate, which would remove the problem.
