China pork prices, output seen higher in 2010

Prices of pork in mainland China may grow 10 percent in the second half of 2009 and 20 percent in 2010, according to Zhu Yicai, president of China Yurun Food Group Ltd, the country's major meat supplier.

Zhu said pork price has already rebounded in June. He also noted Yurun's production output volume has increased significantly in the second quarter due to the earlier expansion of its production capacity.

In order to push its annual output volume to 30 million tonnes in 2010, the company plans to invest HK$1.5 billion (US$193.6 million) to expand its production capacity this year.
