Canada's Olymel to renovate two poultry plants

Canadian meat processor Olymel has announced it will spend about C$2.2 million to renovate two of its poultry processing plants in Quebec.

About C$1.76 million will be spent at Ste-Rosalie to expand and renovate the deboning and further processing plant, Olymel said Monday (Jun 22).

The project is expected to begin shortly for completion by October, and is expected to improve product flow between the ''raw'' and ''cooked'' sections of the facility. It is also expected to eliminate a source of exterior noise, providing a quieter environment within the plant.

The renovations will also include a new dry storage area, a new unloading and unpacking area for meat and a new packaging room for cooked products. A new separate space for the machinery and welding worships is also planned.

The remaining C$500,000 will be dedicated to storage space for cartons of chicken breasts within the dry warehousing area at Olymel's slaughter and cutting facility at St-Damase.

The renovations at St-Damase will begin at the end of June and are expected to complete by mid-September, said Olymel. The St-Damase facility also has renewed equipment to improve the flow of production.

Olymel L.P. is a Canadian leader in the primary processing, further processing, and distribution of pork and poultry meat products, with facilities in Quebec, Ontario and Alberta.
