Smaller beef cattle seen as more advantageous
Breeding small animals in the beef industry can bring extra advantages than to cattle of the normal size, according to a report on My Fox.
Smaller bulls and heifers can halve the work and expenses, the report said.
The report, quoting a rancher, said 65 percent of a smaller animal goes for edible beef as opposed to 45-50 percent of the bigger ones, equating to a higher efficiency.
Small animals are also environmentally friendly as their little hooves are easier on the pasture, they take up less space and expel less methane, the report said.
The smaller cows are also easier to handle, therefore opening new opportunities for women in cattle ranching, the report said.
