Ukraine's pig population up 2.8% in May
In May, the pig population rose by 2.8% or 223,000 heads compared with April, to 8.17 million heads as of June 1, 2010, the State Statistics Committee has reported.
Pig population grew by 4.3% or 191,600 heads compared to April, to 4.654 million heads in private farms, and by 0.9% or 31,400 heads to 3.521 million heads in specialised farms.
The pig population rose by 14.2% or 1.014 million heads against June 1, 2009.
Specifically, pig population grew by 16.9% or 509,000 heads in specialised farms, and by 12.2% or 505,303 heads in private farms.
According to earlier reports, in April the pig population went up by 1.3% or 105,300 heads compared with March, to 7.952 million heads as of May 1, 2010.
