Giant Eagle lowers chicken and ground beef prices

 
 

US retailer Giant Eagle Inc. announced that the company had reduced prices on several chicken and ground beef products starting June 18.

 

The reduced prices are expected to result in US$20 million in annualised customer savings.

 

More than 50 products are being reduced an average of 17 percent, with select items being reduced up to 44 percent, the company said.

 

Products being reduced include Giant Eagle boneless chicken breasts; chicken tenders; split chicken breasts; chicken thighs, wings and drumsticks; whole chicken fryers; Giant Eagle frozen boneless chicken breasts and chicken tenders; Giant Eagle Nature's Basket and Bell & Evans brand chicken items and ground beef chuck, ground sirloin, and 95 percent lean ground beef.

 

The reduced ground beef items have been lowered by as much as US$0.46 per pound.

 

Giant Eagle Senior Director of Corporate Communications Robert Borella said chicken and ground beef are the highest purchased items in the company's self-service meat case and represent 33 percent of the total business activity in the meat category.

 

Giant Eagle, Inc. has 160 corporate and 60 independently owned and operated supermarkets in addition to 153 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland.
