China 2007 wheat production seen at 94.97 million tonnes
 

 

China's 2007 wheat production is expected to total 94.97 million tonnes, up 4 percent from 2006.
 

Planting area in the country's nine major wheat production provinces is estimated at 288.22 million mu (19.215 million hectares) for 2007, up 2.5 percent on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

 

Wheat production in the nine provinces should account for about 85 percent of total domestic wheat production.

 

Wheat volume for market sales in the nine provinces is seen to rise 1.8 million tonnes from 2006 to register a total of 51.7 million tonnes this year.

 

In those provinces, an estimated 50.3 million tonnes of new wheat is expected to be purchased this year, of which 40.8 million tonnes should go to state-owned grain enterprises.
