Pakistan's wheat procurement achieves 83.16 percent of target

Pakistan's wheat procurement has shown an 83.16 percent achievement of the 4.730 million tonnes target, at 3.835 million tonnes for the current year.

So far, Punjab province has procured 2.433 million tonnes against the provincial target of 3.5 million tonnes. Meanwhile, the provincial target of 0.5 million tonnes has been achieved in Sindh province.

Estimated total wheat production has been over 21.1 million tonnes, surpassing the 2003-04 target of 20.1 million tonnes.

Wheat has been sown over an area of 8.33 million hectares during the year 2004-05 and expected production would be around 22 million tonnes.
