Ukraine's pig population up slightly in April

 

 

In April, the pig population increased by 1.3% or 105,300 heads compared with March, to 7.95 million heads as of May 1, 2010, the State Statistics Committee has reported.

 

Pig population rose by 1.3% or 59,200 heads compared to March, to 4.462 million heads in private farms, and by 1.3% or 46,100 heads to 3.49 million heads in specialised farms.

 

The pig population rose by 15% or 1.03 million heads against May 1, 2009.

 

Specifically, pig population grew by 19% or 557,000 heads in specialised farms, and by 12.1% or 481,800 heads in private farms.

 

According to earlier reports, in March the pig population went up by 0.5% or 42,600 heads compared with February, to 7.847 million heads as of April 1, 2010.
