Animal protein production needs to increase threefold by 2050
The International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) expects that protein needed for animal feed would have to treble by 2050 to meet production demand from population growth and rising living standards worldwide.
The world currently produces about 600 million tonnes of compound animal feed with the US leading in production, followed by the EU, China and Brazil.
China is expected to help Asia overtake North America in terms of animal feed production within the next five to ten years.
