Argentina's April soy industry stocks down 13 percent on-year
Argentina's oilseed industry held soybean stocks totalling 2,379,596 tonnes in April, the latest Agriculture Secretariat data show.
That puts stocks down 13.4 percent from the same month in 2005, when they totalled 2,746,763 tonnes.
Industry stocks normally rise during the first part of the soybean harvest and begin to dwindle toward the end. Farmers here harvest soybeans from March through July.
Soyoil stocks were 228,022 tonnes in April, up 30 percent from 175,524 tonnes the previous year.
Stocks of soy pellets amounted to 516,970 tonnes, up 2.6 percent from 504,112 tonnes in April 2005.
Argentina produced a record 39 million tonnes of soy in 2004/05, compared with 33 million a year earlier, according to the US Department of Agriculture. The USDA expects Argentina to produce 40.5 million tonnes in 2005/06.
Argentina is the world's leading soyoil and soymeal exporter.
