JBS investigated for corruption
JBS SA, the world's largest beef processor, is under investigation by Brazil's federal prosecutor's office for corruption charges.
The investigation is part of a widespread corruption case that has targeted several companies in the beef industry.
Other meatpackers and leather companies including Bihl, Margen and Curtume Nossa Senhora Aparecida are also investigated for the bribing of public officials, racketeering, corruption, fraud and collusion, according to a representative at the federal prosecutor's office.
JBS has denied involvement in the crimes in a statement. The company said it is unaware of the precise details of the investigation, and that it has made itself available to the Federal Police and will cooperate with them fully at all times.
JBS is the world's largest beef producer, with 62 plants located across Brazil, Argentina, the US, Australia and Italy.
