Pakistan quality shrimp and fish export prices plummet
Pakistan's quality shrimp and fish export prices have plummeted in the local market after seafood exporters stopped their buying from June 15 saying that edible marine animals undergo breeding during the June to July period.
Although the official ban on fishing and shrimp catch is starting from July 1, the exporters have stopped purchasing shrimp and fish from June 15.
Pakistan Fisheries Exporters Association (PAKFEA) chairman Faisal Iftikhar said that there is an agreement with the Sindh Fisheries Minister under which exporters will not purchase fish and shrimp after June 15.
According to local fishermen, the price of shrimp has come down to PKR510 per kilogramme (kg) from PKR700 since June 15, while shimp is being purchased in the range of PKR160 to PKR180 per kg which was being offered at PKR220 two days earlier.
Price of catfish is available at PKR160 per kg. Earlier it was sold at PKR270, while prices of mackerel remain unchanged in the range of PKR350 to PKR60 per kg.
