Scotland earns US$390 million annually from salmon
Salmon farming generates more than 197 million GBP (British pounds) or US$390.73 million a year for Scotland, claims a new business survey.
In a survey conducted by the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation (SSPO), salmon benefits aquaculture commerce in the Highlands and Islands, Scotland nets around 149 million GBP per annum (US$295.51 million).
Other Scottish regions benefit from a further 48 million GBP boost, the rest of the UK gains 50 million GBP and 5 million GBP overseas, according to the survey.
The total annual expenditure on suppliers of goods and services tops 253 million GBP, the SSPO said.
The Highlands and Islands also benefit the most by the volume of businesses that supply the industry, with some 77 per cent of suppliers based in the region.
