Cattle numbers in Ukraine dip in Jan-May
 

 

The number of horned cattle in Ukraine declined by 3.2% in the first five months of 2010 on-year, including a 4% decrease in cow numbers.

 

Meanwhile, pig numbers rose by 14.2%, sheep and goat numbers by 5.4%, and poultry numbers by 5.1%, the State Statistics Committee has reported.

 

As of June 1, 2010, private farms had 69.6% of the total number of horned cattle including cows with 78.1%, while pigs account for 56.9%, sheep and goats for 83.8% and poultry for 51.9%.

 

In agricultural enterprises, the total volume of cattle and poultry breeding exceeded the level of January-May 2009 by 14.1%, including pigs by 23.6%, poultry by 16.3%, but cattle breeding declined by 10.5%.
