Kemin highlights effects of Clostat on poultry gut health

In two conferences in France, Kemin presented the effect of Bacillus Subtilis PB6 spores on poultry gut health when added to the animal diet.

An increasing number of pathogenic bacteria are developing a multi-resistance against antibiotics which can lead to a life threatening situation for humans. In several European countries, debates are hot among industry stakeholders regarding the appropriate industry response to this news. The industry must adopt new methods in managing gut health and optimising animal performance.

Gut health issues in poultry often arise, resulting in an overgrowth of Clostridium perfringens that lead to bacterial enteritis. As a result, antibiotics are often fed to help animals cope with Clostridium challenges.

Kemin’s CloStat contains a strain of Bacillus subtilis PB6 that has been isolated and selected from the gut of chickens that were able to cope with the Clostridi bacteria. The probiotic aims to prevent bacterial attacks on poultry gut health.

Through preventive application in poultry production, poultry health can be improved and incidences of bacterial enteritis reduced.
